Learning Effectiveness Evaluation System

I. Overall Learning Outcomes Plan for Industry-Academia Cooperation at Each Stage

The Elite Ph.D. Program in Medical Device Technology and Biomedical Imaging Industry serves as a mechanism linking the university, students, and industry. Through mutual interaction and exchange, it aims to enhance students’ employability and improve the R&D capabilities of the industry.

  1. Selected students will sign a training contract during the first year of their master’s or doctoral studies. The contract includes the student’s research directions related to industry R&D and details the scholarship or funding amount received.

  2. In addition to complying with the practical training arranged by the College, students are required to submit annual professional reports on their industry-related R&D progress in accordance with the announced assessment schedule.

  3. In the first year of the doctoral program, students will begin drafting research proposals related to industry R&D. During this period, the advisor, industry professional instructors, and the student will hold regular meetings to discuss and revise the proposal. To meet commercialization requirements, special attention is given to: (1) medical device regulations, (2) biocompatibility, (3) functional testing, (4) safety testing, (5) electrical safety standards, (6) software validation, and (7) intellectual property protection. These considerations aim to facilitate smoother future regulatory approval and registration processes.

  4. Students are encouraged, in their second doctoral year, to submit industry R&D collaboration proposals to companies under their advisor’s name. On-campus advisors and industry professionals will customize key experiments and milestone schedules for the R&D projects.

  5. The College also encourages participating advisors, company representatives, and doctoral students to apply for project funding for their R&D achievements without violating confidentiality principles, such as the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, to accelerate industrial upgrading and enhance corporate competitiveness.

II. Assessment Mechanism

  1. Students who feel their interests do not align with the program may apply for a transfer to another department, institute, or degree program after approval from the College’s Admissions and Academic Committee. Transfer procedures are subject to the university’s academic regulations and student transfer policies. However, the following students are not eligible to apply for transfer:

    A. Students who have studied less than one academic year.

    B. Students who have already been approved for one transfer of department, degree program, or university.

  2. Students enrolled directly in the integrated master’s/Ph.D. five-year R&D program who have not yet reached the program duration limit may apply to transfer back to their original department, institute, or degree program to complete their master’s degree before the end of each semester, subject to approval by the relevant committee and the university president. Reasons for transfer include:

    A. Suspension of doctoral studies for any reason.

    B. Failure to pass the doctoral candidacy examination.

    C. Failure to pass the doctoral degree examination.

Such students must comply with the academic regulations of the master’s program, complete the required courses, submit a thesis, and pass the master’s degree examination to be awarded the master’s degree. The time spent in the doctoral program will not count towards the maximum duration allowed for the master’s degree.

  1. The following situations shall result in dismissal:

    A. Doctoral students who fail required courses must retake them. Failure after one retake will result in dismissal.

    B. Students with unsatisfactory conduct grades shall be dismissed.

    C. Doctoral candidacy examinations must be passed within three years of enrollment. Students failing on the first attempt may retake once; failure after retake will result in dismissal. (This also applies to students who enter the doctoral program directly after their master’s degree.)
